Consider me your writing coach!

If you didn’t learn it in school, you can learn it from me! As a former English teacher, book editor and award-winning journalist, many people have asked me for writing advice. I offer consulting and tutorials for those who want to learn how and why the rules apply.

Writing Coach for Business and Technical Projects

I travel to corporate buildings in the Houston, Texas area for “fun and furious” group writing lessons, workshop sessions and book clubs. Writing is not everyone’s cup of tea, but you can become a better writer with effort and perseverance. After all, most jobs require some sort of writing acumen. Knowing how to write is a marketable and valuable skill set, not just as an author, but as someone who can produce copy in any industry. If you need a writing coach, count on me!

Writing Coach for Authors

I coach via phone, email, Facetime, Skype and Facebook Messenger at your convenience, and charge an hourly rate. I also recommend reading assignments and point you to learning websites that help teach you the finer points of the following (and more):

  • Avoiding grammatical errors
  • Tense
  • Syntax
  • Subject-verb agreement
  • Hyphenation
  • Mislabeling issues
  • Awkward transitions
  • Mood
  • Filling plot gaps
  • Overall story arc
  • Flow and pacing

Whether you envision a fiction or non-fiction book, there needs to be rhyme and reason to your writing. You’ll need to organize your manuscript chronologically or in a pleasing story arc that draws in your readers and makes them feel at home.

We can study dozens of literary elements and explore hook, characterization, plot, conflict and conclusion. We can practice writing and rewriting, so you’ll become familiar syntax and also recognize plot gaps and issues with flow and pacing. Most importantly, you’ll receive lots of encouragement and tips so that you can complete your manuscript and get it published!

Yes, You Can!

Anyone can develop writing skills and improve their technique. A sharper eye, a better sense flow, and a grasp of tone and diction can elevate mediocre writing to remarkable levels. And even if you never really learn to love writing, at least you can enjoy a new found confidence when you do write!
